Alsace is a region of France, in the northeast corner of the country along the Rhine River. It is composed of two départments (provinces): Bas-Rhin in the north, and Haut-Rhin in the south. It is bordered to the east and north by Germany, and to the south by Switzerland. Often Alsace and the neighboring region of Lorraine are collectively referred to as "Alsace-Lorraine."
